Connect a Shopify store and BeforeQuery indexes your products and pages (shipping policies, FAQs, size guides), so the assistant can answer questions like “Does the X model come in blue?” or “What’s your return window?” with links back to the store.

Prerequisites

  • A Shopify store where you can create a custom app (store owner or staff with app-development permission).
  • A BeforeQuery workspace owner role.

Set up the connector

1

Create a custom app in Shopify

In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps and create a custom app.
2

Grant read scopes and install

In the app’s Configuration, grant read access to Products and Online Store pages (read_products, read_content). Install the app to your store and copy the Admin API access token (shpat_…) — it’s shown once.
3

Add the source in BeforeQuery

In the dashboard, open Project → Sources → Add source and choose Shopify. Enter your store domain (e.g. acme.myshopify.com) and the access token, then click Add. The first sync starts automatically.

Keeping content in sync

Click Sync after catalog changes, or set a daily schedule so new products and updated pages are picked up automatically. Unchanged items are not re-embedded.

Troubleshooting

  • Products missing from answers? Confirm the app has the read_products scope and the products are published to the Online Store channel.
  • Sync fails with 401? The access token was rotated or the app was uninstalled — reinstall and update the token in the source settings.
  • Multiple storefronts? Add one Shopify source per store, and use source groups plus per-key allowed_groups if each storefront should have its own scoped widget.
